OR …
Kiwi is one of the coolest fruits … it is the perfect snack size, it’s sweet and juicy on the inside, but furry on the outside, has tons of Vitamin C (do you remember what Vitamin C is good for?), it grows on a vine, and is named after a bird! Don’t kiwi fruit look like the Kiwi bird? They were actually called “Chinese goosberries” and “melonettes” until the 1960’s when importers decided to give it a more fun name that would remind people of New Zealand where it was grown. People from New Zealand are often called kiwis and the kiwi fruit looks just like the adorable Kiwi bird. It’s the perfect name!
Here is a super easy way to eat this strange fruit. Cut it in half, then eat out the middle with a spoon! Or if you’re really brave you can eat the furry outside too! Kiwis are in season this time of year. Try some for a snack this week!
I loved this! Also, kiwi is a delightful fruit.
I always wondered which was named first! I think naming the fruit Kiwi is a big improvement over Chinese Gooseberries. Lol. Melonettes would have been a pretty cute name too. 🙂
